Invitation to the Clan Day April 23 2023

Dear all,

We are happy to announce the new Clan Day. The date was already known: Sunday April 23. This year we will meet at Paviljoen De Oostvaarders in Almere.

The theme is therefore: Oostvaarders, Westvaarders .

After the annual meeting, we will delve into a bit of history of our international family.

Our Scottish ancestor William settled in Amsterdam from Scotland in 1782. A few generations later, Jonathan settled in Curaçao. His son George August Laan had 17 children and Jan Helenus had 13.

We are descended from this ' branch of 17 ' and ' branch of 13 '. Their descendants fanned out further in the East and West.

• How international are we as a family now? We'd love to find out on April 23!

• We would also like to measure the strengths between the 'branch of 17' and the 'branch of 13' with some Highland Games!

Program design:

• Walk Oostvaardersplassen. Two options: enthusiasts gather between 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM with a ranger (see below) or at 11:15 AM for just a breath of fresh air.

• From 12 noon: annual meeting, high tea and presentation. We continue with a short presentation about our international family history and a sample from, among others, the Chinese archive.

• At about 2 p.m.: let the games begin.... Gather on the field for a new tradition, our annual showdown, with at least a game of tug-of-war and a hay bag throwing competition.

• From 3 p.m.: chat, for those who want.

Highland Games - info

There is something for everyone to experience on our Clan Day. Do you have any ideas for the Highland Games or are you a (pub) quiz master? Send us an email, your help is very welcome.

Walking - info

Spot the sea eagle! Spring walk with ranger . Costs 10-15 euros per person, depending on the size of the group; walk-in with coffee and tea between 10-10.30, introduction and walking excursion 10.30-12.00 (only if there are enough candidates).

Prefer a short walk? A group gathers at 11:15 am for some fresh air.

Are you coming to the Clan Day? Let us know soon, preferably before March 15.

For this day we would like to invite all family members: members and non-members . So spread the word to the family members you know who have not yet joined the clan!

Cost . Participation is free for clan members this year, including festive high tea. If you are not a member, the costs for participation and high tea are €23 pp. You can of course also become a member immediately, thereby supporting the continued existence of the clan. Children up to 20 years old participate for free! NB Drinks during the chat are at your own expense, as is the walk with the ranger.
